Dryer Vent Cleaning tends to get overlooked in annual home maintenance. There are several reasons to get your dryer vent professionally cleaned.
- Dryer vents often build up with lint. Lint is a great fire starter for camping but you don’t want a fire in your dryer vent! According to the National Fire Protection Association from 2010-2014 the majority of house fires (94%) involved clothes dryers.
- It is a great idea to hang dry your clothes so that you don’t use as much energy to dry your clothes in a dryer, however it is also great to be able to use a clothes dryer when you need it. If you use a clothes dryer, it is best for it to run as efficiently as possible. When the dryer vent is clean it runs at optimal efficiency meaning better airflow, less time to dry clothes, and less money spent on your electric bill.
- Dryers can be damaged from running it while the dryer vent is clogged. Many times on newer dryers, error codes will show up on the display if there is a clogged dryer vent. If you continue to run the dryer while there is an error code, it can lead to dryer failure and can be very costly to repair or replace the dryer.
- When a dryer vent is clogged it can lead to condensation buildup in the dryer vent. This increases the chance that mold and mildew can become a problem within the vent pipe.
